SESB Generator (On-site Rewinding)
Generator Full Remedial Works
Adaptive Power in December, 2023 was engaged to support Sandakan Power Station in the investigation of catastrophic damage to their 23.9MW Medien Power Generator (GTG2).
The prioity for the plant was to restore the generator as fast as possible and get back to supporting the heavy demand on the grid.
Adaptive Power proposed an onsite stator rewind along, workshop rotor inspection and refurbisment as the most speedy, cost effective and sustainable method.
Adaptive Power with its knowledge, experience and network of partners was selected and awarded the contract after a competitive bidding process.
Adaptive Power conducted works in accordance with the highest of quality, OEM Standards and industry best practices.
The scope of works was the following:
Rotor
- Disassembly of the generator in preparation for works.
- Prepare special tools and fabricate rotor removal table for safe practices.
- Remove the rotor for inspection and transportation to workshop.
- In workshop retainer ring removal, inspection and reinsulation.
- Inspection, clean and repair of bearings, diode, pmg and exciter.
- Reinstall retainer ring, varnish, curing and repairs.
- Rotor TIR, balancing, electrical testing and quality checks.
Stator
- Removal/Stripping of main stator windings, clean slots and varnish core.
- Take measurements and manufacture new coils as per OEM standard.
- Rewind main stator with new coils, winding connection and electrical testing.
- Varnish, curing and final comprehensive HV electrical testing.
Installation & Commissioning
- Re-insert rotor and reassemble generator into the enclosure.
- Commissioning of Generator, electrical testing and reporting.
Adaptive Power along with its partners are proud to have successfully compeleted this project and continue to support the plant in maintenance of their fleet of Generators.
